lighting guideline's - kitchen remodel

I am redoing a kitchen. It is basically a gally layout. Size is 15x12.

I need to know what the "guideline's" are fr placement of recessed lighting. I am using recessed for the general task lighting in the room and want to run two "run's" of then down each 15' wall.

I need to know how far off the top cabinet they should go and how far apart to space them. Is there a general guideline for this?

I will have other lighting (ie: pendent) for task lighting.

We normally set recessed 30" off of the wall, which puts them about over a person's head who is standing at a standard 24" deep base cabinet. This does not put the light so far behind you that it causes serious shadow problems at the countertop, and also seems like a good compromise in being far enough away from the upper cabinets to prevent excessive washing of a cone of light on the cabinet faces. For 15', three lights on each side should be plenty, with an additional one at each end centered inthe twelve foot
width. Put these two on a separate switch, as they probably will not be needed that much, and this will also allow you to turn just the two of them on for minimal lighting in the room.

Sometimes when spacing the lights along the run of the cabinets, it looks best if you can line up the lights where two doors come together, or in the center of the door, or where two doors are hinged. If they are not somewhat close, it has an off balance look and feel, but this really depends on your kitchen layout,
