Lighting fixture may not be supported by nonmetallic conduit

Section 347-3(b) in the NEC says that a lighting fixture may not be supported by nonmetallic conduit (pvc.) Is this the same as strapping a box to an outside wall, running pvc (properly bracketed) to the box from a jb at the sill and attaching the light fixture to the box?

Thank you,
Ed

No this mostly refers to using a piece of pipe to span joists and hanging the light of the the pipe with fixture chain.

I'm not sure what section you are refering to. I don't have the 2011 NEC, but Article 347 doesn't exist in the 2008 NEC.

To answer your question, indepentantly securing the box to the building and mounting the light fixture to that is acceptable, as the RNC is not supporting the light...the box is.

Correct on both points.
