Question

light without ground

I am installing a sconce light on a wall that I cannot run wire through without cutting into the sheetrock so I am thinking of just wiring it with a lamp cord. The lamp cords I've seen do not have a ground wire on them. Is this an issue for a sconce light? Should I used a three-prong cord instead?

Thank you!

Neither lamp cord nor flexible cord like an extension cord is permitted to be used in place of a recognized wiring method like non-metallic cable, Type AC or MC cable or a conduit system.

Do you mean you just want to hang the sconce, run the "lamp cord" down the wall and plug it into an outlet?

Yes. The wiring will not be in the wall at all. The scone will be mounted to a wooden box and the box attached to the wall. The cord will come out of a hole in the bottom of the box and plug into the outlet. I would wire the lamp cord to the sconce but it would not be grounded.

Thank you very much for the help.
