Light switch flashed as ceiling light bulb blew

House is 4 yrs. old. Turned on light switch in laundry room overhead light; the bulb blew and the light switch also sparked but didn't shock me, nor did it trip the circuit breaker. This light fixture seems to need frequent bulb replacements. Is it a wiring issue or switch issue? Is this a fire hazard?

Check the wiring in both the switch box and light box. Take pictures that would help

Measure the voltage in the socket with the bulb removed.

Is the bulb of too great a wattage for the fixture? More than 60 watts incandescent in an enclosed fixture is enough to at least raise an eyebrow although some fixtures can take a little more.

Frequent bulb changes can be a signal of a loose connection. Loose connections cause heat. Too much heat causes fires.

Appreciate all the good information from all who replied. I'll be calling an Electrician tomorrow!

Another concern... is it ok to use the washer/dryer, which are located in this room and are no doubt on the same circuit?
