Light switch from a double socket ?

Hi,

I'm busy laying a new patio and want to put a couple of lights out there. I'm running a piece of armoured cable from the kitchen to the pillars where I want the lights. I haven't a clue how to go about wiring them though.
Can I get a normal light switch to function by connecting it from a double socket plug ?

All advice welcome

what gage cable are you running? What kind of lights are they? Any plugs out there as well? Will need a GFi outside. Normal switch can be wired in to work.

Where in the kitchen are getting the power? You can't get it from any of the receptacles located in the counter area. The kitchen counter receptacles are required to serve only the kitchen counter.

Thanks guys,

I haven't got the cable yet. The type of lights I was thinking of were just 40w outdoor lights (not low voltage)
I have a a choice of 3 double sockets from which I can take the supply. 2 in the kitchen (behind cupboards - used for tumble dryer at the moment) and 1 double socket in an adjoining spare room.

Any thoughts ?

Will the cable be run above ground or underground? You can feed the circuit from a receptacle outlet circuit, but not from the kitchen small appliance circuits. You can feed a switch from the receptacle and then continue to the lights. Try to describe your project a little more to help us picture it.
