we need more detail and/or pics to be of any help to you

you mentioned power to the socket, but the socket must also have vacuum tube resister (aka bulb )

Yeah sorry I don't live there or I would take a pic...the tester shows power in the socket and we removed the socket hooked it up to a extension cord and had light....driving me crazy..haha

if by tester you mean one of those non-contact testers they are not reliable for precion testing. if yiou have a loose neutral it might still show voltage but no cigar for lighting your lamp. my brothers house had a loose neutral. non contact tester registered voltage, multimeter only registered 78 volts. light didnt work

if you are using a multimeter, what is voltage reading

Yeah it was a non contact fluke tester....I will check it with a meter tomorrow ...thanks for the help

If you tested at the active terminal and received a positive result !
And you still have no light !
Then your neutral line is faulty !
EASY STUFF !

Verify the lamp is good.

Thanks everyone....now I put a meter to it and from ground to the socket is 124 volts ....does this mean a bad neutral wire....ans if so what is the fix? ??

Check the wires behind the light socket,
for loose/broken wires.
If no joy there,
Go to any j boxs in between light socket and switch.
ditto !
Check wires behind light switch
ditto!
Still no joy check panel.
If still nothing ,
you have a broken cable somewhere.

Check wires for loose connections-
1 - behind light socket .
2 - any j boxs .
3 - behind switch .
4 - Panel .
If still nothing found,
you may have a broken cable somewhere.

You have to check from neutral to hot for the 120 at the socket.
