light install question

A friend of mine wants me to install 6 recessed lights in her livingroom, place a light in the ceiling of a bedroom and a light switch in a closet. What would you charge to do this work? The house is a 1 floor ranch, open attic space above all rooms which makes this alot easier to do but still takes time.........

light install question

These type of questions really can't be answered. There are many variables involved.

Is a new circuit going to be run or does an existing circuit have capacity?
The quality of materials used, for example, recessed trims can be $4 or $40. What is the cost of living in your area?
Can the old wiring, pre 1987, be used or do you need the higher temperature rated wiring?

Check with some recommended local contractors with insurance and permits for more accurate quotes.

light install question

If its a friend don't charge anything. Have her pick out the lights with you in tow and once the lights are selected you go get all the other materials you need, she pays. You do it for beverages and pizza. Shouldn't take more than a day for an average DIYer. Have fun and have her help if she is able.

light install question

I agree with Brik on this one. I wouldn't do electrical work for pay, especially not for a friend. 1)She's a friend, help her out. 2)You don't have a license (i assume), so don't put yourself in a bad situation by selling your electrical services.

light install question

Thanks, I do agree with you about not taking money from a friend but she insists on paying me to do the work. She has a lot of things around her house that need to be done and refuses not to pay. I told her to just buy the material and thats it or give me a couple cases of beer for later, but she insists. And the question is, is she hot. She's not bad.
