Let me start by saying that I know nothing about electrical/lighting. I would like to install pendant lighting to hang above a desk, from a soffet-type part of my wall, but I don't know if there is wiring in the wall to supply electricity to the fixture.
Can I assume that it's possible for an electrician to install lighting anywhere in my home? Would I need to hire someone to open up the wall to find out if there is wiring to connect the lighting fixture to, or is it possible for the electrician to run wiring if none currently exists in that area? Can the electrician also install a switch in a different part of the room so that I can turn the fixture on and off?
Thank you for your advice!
Anything is possible for your electrician. It just depends if there is access to the area from above or below, on how much you want to spend and how much wall patching you want to do. Usually a good re-model electrician can do it with minimal damage, but you should be prepared for some.
