Light Fixture and Ceiling Fan

My ceiling fan light fixture doesn't work, but my ceiling fan does. Any suggestions on how to get it to work?

Check the bulbs. Check the switch. Check the connections at the fan. Has it ever worked before?

Yes, the lighting fixture and fan has worked ever since I have lived in this house over 4 years ago. The power source for the fan and the light are the main swith on the wall. However, both are controlled separately by two different chains. I took the fixture a part and it looks like all the wires are connected properly. However, I am not an electrician. Any suggestions?

You need to test at different places whether there is voltage or not... and turn off/on the breaker(s)...etc.... it is a bit dangerous if you don't know anything... let us know if you do want to try though... can explain further...

hi,

i had the lights stop working on a ceiling fan that was only a year old. after some testing, found out it was the pull switch for the lights. the switches are made kind of cheap, at least mine was. if it is the switch, make sure u get a new switch with the same voltage and amp rating, as the old switch. this is VERY important, cause if the new switches amp rating is too low, it could burt out the switch. the rating of the switch should be printed on the switch somewhere....bob

I second bobo. Simple test when you pull the chain do you here the distinctive click. If you try both you should be able to hear the difference. They typically fail at that point. Do not take it apart without first turning off the breaker that controls this fan!

thanks for pointing out, that the BREAKER for the fan be turned off before dismantling the fan! i just assumed, it would be turned off, but when dealing with electric, you should NEVER assume that someone would remember to snap the breaker off! thank you!, good catch!!!...bob
