Lightbulb

light dimmer problem

i have noticed that at the same time 2 separate sets of my dimmer switch operated ceiling recessed lights (2 bulbs to each switch) stopped working. light bulbs are ok and fuses for the house are ok too. LEDs on both switches
went dead . Are these switches equipped with some sort of internal fuses.
There may have been weather-related momentary power outages when this occured.Any thoughts? thanx

I would use a voltmeter to trouble shoot this. Without a voltmeter, I would pull one of the dimmers out (turn the power off). I would then connect the source and switched wires together, temporarily bypassing the dimmer, to see if the lights came on. Do the connections with the power off, then turn it on to check the lights, then turn it back off to put things back to normal.

Do not mess with electricity if you doubt your ability. Calling an electrician never killed or hurt anyone.

Sometimes the switches have a system switch. Lutron Maestro is a good example. Check to see if there is a very tiny switch on the front of your dimmer. Either at the bottom of the decora style rockers or sometimes at the bottom of the slide bar.
This actually kills the dimmer switch. You should never work on a dimmer while it's hot. This switch will NOT turn the circuit off. Just the device.
