Light bulbs burning out

Again I was over helping a friend with some light fixtures. Their light above the sink says it is rated at 120v 75w. The bulbs they are using are a 65w, yet they are burning out within a week.

Are they maybe a bad batch of bulbs, can't think of anything else since the wattage is lower then the max for the fixture.

more of a voltage thing...get 130 volt bulbs they have sttronger filament...you need to check the voltage...but, if i had to guess you have a bad batch of bulbs

It was sitting at 122v consistently. So same wattage bulbs with a higher voltage rating . Could anything else cause bulbs to blow so quick.

i'd try a different brand of bulb

I will let them know. The white plastic around where the bulb goes in was a bit discolored as well. Signs of it being rather hot, would a higher voltage bulb with lower wattage help with lowering the heat output from the light.

Vibration could shorten lamp life, as could a loose connection.

That is a very short lifetime. 122 volts into a 120v bulb should give you 100[(120/122)^14] = ~80% of rated lifetime and 44% for a 115v bulb.

cheap bulbs

One time my wife brought home a quanity of light bulbs that were on sale - cheap. They did not last long at all - seems I spent the next year or two doing nothing but changing light bulbs until I used them all up.

Or have a honeymoon couple upstairs?

If the heat can't escape effectively, lamp life can be reduced substantially. Vibration can also be a problem. Voltage too, of course.

It is definitely getting warm under the glass housing. I guess a lower wattage bulb would help somewhat with that. No vibration though, they live on a quiet dead end road, and ranch style house.

Vibration as in people stomping around upstairs while the light is on, or doors slamming close by while the light is on.
