Leviton timer installation - ok with whole house fan?

This weekend I installed a whole house fan in the attic. it comes with a switch for high and low settings. I also purchased a Leviton electronic timer switch (6161T). My plan was to hook the two up together and have the timer feed power to the switch. Here are my questions:

1. The switch says on the packaging: "ideal for heat lamps, indoor and outdoor lighting" and "allows you to connect standard incandescent lighting only" - Can this be used to run power to my 30 inch attic fan?

2. The switch has 2 black wires and a ground. Assuming I can use this with my fan I wanted to confirm I have the wiring correct: Line to either black, second black to the switch, neutral to each other. Is that correct?

Thanks.

What timer(s) would you recommend for this type of application then?

Air Vent - WH302BD

I have a dial type timer (Woods 59717) purchased from Menards but my wife wanted something more 'stylish'. Hopefully there's something that fits the bill.

I searched the Air Vent site and could not find the amperage or horsepower rating on the belt drive model you have. The leviton 6161T would not be applicable but I have located some similar style timers some rated up to one horsepower, most notably Intermatic brand.

The whole house fan I installed yrs ago ( dayton (Grainger)) had a 2 speed with an intermatic timer that came with it.

It was a spring wound type 12 hour , worked great.

I don't have the specific answer for you but would like to advise that timers and motors must be matched. As you have seen, motors are not light bulbs. David

Thanks for your input everyone.

I did find a timer rated at 3/4 HP at home depot today. The fan itself is 1/3 HP so I would assume this will do fine.

Thanks again.
