I have a shower where a bulb is hanging from a socket. I could trace that the wires to the socket is coming from a electrical box that is the attic. There is no housing can in the attic. Given this situation, can I replace the buld with a recessed LED lighting? My general idea was to cut a hole in the ceiling and find a LED light unit that would slide inside the ceiling and stay there. I would screw in the connector to the socket.
Is this even possible? I am not experienced so pardon me for asking something stupid.
I can't see what you have now, but one possibility is a Halo H7ATRT recessed remodel housing with one of Halo's LED retrofit kit's that are made for wet locations.
One followup, since the current socket has only hot and neutral and no ground wire, do I need to be worried? This is a 1956 house and there is no ground wire. The new joint box will not be in contact with the metal conduit, which is usually the case for switches and stuff.
Any suggestions?
