led lighting

I am trying to install led string lights into the top of a 8x8 hard wood beam. i have cut a slot into the top of the beam 1'' deep by 1' 1/4 wide. i want to be able to control them by a switch. i do not want to see a duplex rec above every beam i would like to have them out of sight . how would i go about doing this?
