LED bulbs on a dimmer switch?

Does it work? Are there recommendations for/against?

You have to dimmers specifically designed for LEDs or LEDs that are marked for use with dimmers.

LED are low voltage and therefore require a transformer to drop the voltage down from 120v. Transformers don't like being on a dimmer. That's why you need to KNOW if and how a LED light can be dimmed.

The Commercial Electric Halo style LED trims work great with a standard dimmer.

Lutron dimmer are great but you have to get a dimmable magnetic driver. They can be pricey. For a PMW dimmer, they can be installed after the non dimmable driver but most do not look that good.

Here's an install vid.

With a regular dimmer an led will dim a bit then just turn off. Much of time you need a driver in the light capable of dimming the led or an electronic dimmer as stated previously. The system I'm currently installing requires 120v to the light and 0 to 10 volt control to operate the dimming function at the driver for each light. Do your research and find out what you currently have installed in your fixtures.
