Lawnmower Electrical problems

My lawnmower fuel cutoff solenoid valve went bad on me and melted the connection to it. I bought a new fuel solenoid cutoff valve and new plug but the plug is the wrong size. So, now I have the female part of the plug on the solenoid with to fork connections and two wires. What would be the easiest way to connect the two? Do you think soldering would hold?
