kitchen under cabinet lights

what is the proper way to install the undercabinet lights that have a knockout in them? Are there any wires I could use beside NM?

Are you allowed to mount the switch onto the bottom of the cabinets, I only know of a regular light switch and box which will be too bulky, can you recommend a slimmer option?

If you don't want to use NM romex style cable, the only other option I know of would be to use conduit and pull single strands like THHN.

Can you mount a shallow false bottom on the cabinets to run the wires in? Then surface mount the lights to that?
