Kitchen cabinet lighting options...

I want to reno my kitchen and have seen a lot of pics of cabinet lighting. I am wondering, how does this ligthing pick up it's power source? Is it a receptacle hidden in the cabinets, or just a whip sticking through the wall (like for a dishwasher). Is most of it 120v? Where does the wiring get hidden? I want to have the electrical in place before i order new cabinets.

There are LED, line voltage and low voltage systems to provide lighting in and under cabinets. Each system will vary. I would suggest looking at the different options to find one you like the look of.

I've been installing the xenon or kripton? lights lately. Good light color--long life--dimmable.

The little hockey puck lights just get to hot.

I haven't tried the LED's yet---I didn't like the color of the light--it seems that the color has improved --Might be worth a look see.---Mike--

i would think for under cabinet, LED would be ok...not a critical light...i guess i just need to find out how they power up and how the wiring gets hidden....

How about good old fashioned High Hats. With high wattage energy-saving CFLs!!

what are high hats...not sure if you are joking or not...

High hats are also called recessed lights. I believe north of the border you call them pot lights.

Ahhh, i do plan on putting pot lights in as well. I have vaulted ceiling so some smaller general cabinet lights will come in handy. I think i will have to go visit HD and take a look.

The term
"Recessed Lights" is too broad. It encompasses ALL recessed lights. High hats --to most people-- narrows it down to the specific style.:thumbsup:!

Sorry. I didn't see your post (#6)! Even though I hail from Canada. (Montreal, Que.) Since 1972 I reside in the USA. So I'm used to the terms that are standard here. It's funny. The first time I heard that term (on the job) I thought they were joking, too. I cracked up laughing. "What, you're putting hats in the ceiling????!!!!"!
