Kill a Watt
 

Has anyone tried a Kill a Watt? I want to compare power usage from different appliances. Is this an accurate meter?:huh:

I have one and think it's pretty accurate. The only real comparison though I've made is the voltage compared to my fluke (volt meter).

It gives very similar readings to my clamp meter, which is not a RMS meter, but should be fairly accurate.

The kill a watt is going to be as accurate as is necessary for any residential application imo.

The one I have is very close to the $800 Fluke I use at work. The Fluke was calibrated just a couple of months ago.

I have one, and I think it's pretty accurate (tested against 100 watt light bulbs and 1500 watt heaters), except when measuring less than 10 watts (like when trying to measure the parasitic load from a wall wart, digital cable box, microwave oven clock, etc.).

Does it meet published specs for accuracy (if anyone publishes accuracy specs for this)?

A 'wall wart' is a transformer that plugs into a wall socket.

Cell phone charger, etc.
