Kenmore Oven Error Code

We moved into a home with a black Kenmore double oven. It's great, however, about a year ago, an F7 error code came up which causes the oven to beep sporadically and the buttons to freeze up until you bang on the thing with your fist. We've let it go because it doesn't affect cooking, but now the beeping seems louder and more frequent. It's driving us nuts! I've heard that this is a computer board issue and can be bypassed with cleaning and disconnecting/reconnecting the ribbon wire.
I'm hoping someone out there has dealt with this and can give me some advice. I do have one question... and it seems stupid. Should I turn off the breaker before disconnecting and reconnecting any wires inside of the oven? Will that make a difference or not? Thanks to anyone who can help!

Absolutely !

Here is a paper on the F7 code.

Thank you for that link! I did turn the breaker off before disconnecting and reconnecting the ribbon wire. The only reason I asked was because I was hoping I didn't have to get at our out-of-the-way, unlabeled box. The error is gone, but I suspect it will be back soon, since many people have this problem. The insulation trick will definitely come in handy!
