Junction box in attic

Hey all! I installed a junction box in my attic. It is located within 6' of attic access. I understand romex running across the top of the joists needs protection but what about the junction box itself?

I did not install the box on the inside of a joist. So it is not flush or below the joists. I ran a board across the top of two joists and secured the j-box on top of said board. I did it this way b/c I wanted to get the box out of all the blown insulation. So the box is above all joists with the cover facing up. Does this type of installment require additional protection for the box? Like running boards surrounding the box to prevent anything from resting on top of it? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Off hand, I would say you are fine. Even if it was a minor violation, I would leave it. Hidden j-boxes are a PITA.

I am assuming that this this is an unfinished attic with limited access. No general storage.

Code05,

Thanks for your reply. It is an unfinished attic with the only access being in our hall ceiling with no ladder installed.
