Junction for 12-2

I ran 12-2 wire for a 240 v electric bb heater and ended up having to reposition the heater further away from its original spot. I have more 12-2 so can I put in a junction box and wire nut another 3 feet to the heater? Do I ground to the metal junction box?

Thanks
Buster

Yes and yes. The j-box will have to remain accessible.

Readily accessible means you can open it up anytime you want. You cannot hide it inside the wall. You can put it behind furniture though.
