Question

Inverter help???

Can I combine 2 600 watt inverters to make one 1200 watt power inverter, I am a do it yourself tinkerer, and I really need to know if this is even possible. Please respond ASAP.

Are these static (VFD) or rotary inverters?

Not unless you can force the two into phase. AC isn't quite like DC. If you could build a circuit to control the phase of each inverter in relation to the other, then yes, it would work. But right out of the box.. no. I have 1500 watt inverter that I bought at a truck stop for $50. It was used but man does it work!

I'm guessing you mean these:

In which case, unless you have two very fancy ones: No.

The AC outputs of the two inverters would not have sync'd sine (or square) waves, so you would end up with some weird combined voltage.. somewhere between 0 and 240.

Bah, crossed posts.. what he said ^^^^^.

You can not parallel the plain jane inverters at all due lack of schronous control.

If you do you will get weird voltage or destory unit one of the two.

Wheres the OP? If she does in fact have VFD's in mind, she can use more than one to increase output current. It's called a "shared bus".

Just buy a 1200 watt inverter. They are pretty cheap these days.
