Interruptor switches

Can interruptable switches be used 2 way? I needed 4 of them for a couple of 3-way lights but a box of 10 was cheaper than buying 4 individually (go figure). I started conversing with the owner of the shop, and we thought not, but couldn't determine a specific answer why or why not. I don't intend to, but its one of those things that my aching brain needs an answer to......

Are you talking about 3 way switches?
In a pinch I have used a 3 way for a single pole switch. It does not have the on/ off stamped, so you amy install it upside down on the first try.

correct, 3-way switches. instead of 2 switches to one light, can they be used one switch to one light? I need to cure my curiosity.

Yes. They can be used to switch just one light.
