Installing window air conditioner

When you install a window air conditioner, is there any way to not lose the convenience of the other half of the window opening when it is a "slider?" And are there small windows to go on top of the air conditioner so the top isn't "boarded up"?

I'm a newbie and am going to have this installed professionally but I want to have what I'm talking about when I make calls to electricians.

Thanks.

Not unless you want the unit to fall out of the Window. As for the question, is there a hidden question on Electrical in there?
