installing a timer switch

I want to replace the switch for my bathroom fan with a timer switch.

However the bathroom fan switch wiring is quite old, the existing switch is a 3 wire setup and the timer switch has 4 wires.

Can I connect the timer to this old wiring? If so how do I connect the extra wire on the timer switch?

Thanks.

Need more info.

The three existing wires are all part of a single cable? What colors are the insulation? In particular, is one of the wires white with a black mark (or black piece of tape)? Where does each of the three wires connect on the existing switch?

What is the brand and model number of the timer? Are there any markings on the timer, particularly near the terminals? Did the timer come with any instructions? If so, what are they?

If you can, a picture of the existing switch and of the timer.
