I removed an old single gang metal box from the wall and am replacing with a blue old-work box. I slightly damaged the wall when taking out the metal box, and now the hole in the wall is a tad too big for my blue Carlon box, so the tabs on the front of the box don't grab the front side of the wall. Any tips for getting this old-work box to fit? Thanks!
If you are next to a stud, you can Google "Smart Box". If not, you have created a bunch more work. There really is no good way to do it. If you patch the hole, there is a good chance the mud will just break out when you reinstall the box.
Ah, very cool. I've never seen that before, but it seems like a good solution to my problem. I also had the same thought on the mud just breaking away when trying to re-install my box. Thanks for the tip on the smart box though; it looks to be the way to go!
Why would this be better than k_buz's idea? I don't see how a repair patch would solve the problem of installing the Carlon.
