Does NEC require you to upgrade to AFCI if I am replacing my old 12 circuit load center with a 40 circuit load center? It seems rather important seeing as how the 20 circuits that my house will now be using could either be $80 or $800 worth of breakers depending on what the rules state.
I put in a request to the local utility to send an engineer out to confirm that the current service drop is sufficient for a 200 amp panel. If not they have told me that they will upgrade it for me. Hopefully that is the case.
I was hoping that the utility would handle everything up to and including the meter and that I would handle everything past the meter. I gotta talk to the utility again to find out what all they will do.
