Installing new light fixture in bathroom - HELP!

Good afternoon, all!

I just went to install a new electrical box in my bathroom wall for a fixture above the sink, and got a nice surprise - there's a pipe running directly behind the wall where the box should go. I've attached pictures here so you all can see what I'm talking about. The first circle that's half cut out is where I initially thought it would go.

Installing the box next to the pipe causes obvious problems: 1) whatever fixture we install will no longer be centered above the sink/mirror, and 2) I'm nervous about having the box flush against this white pipe anyway.

Any suggestions on a fix for this? Do they make electrical boxes that are meant for situations like this?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

You have a couple options.

Raise the box above the plumbing
Lower the box below the plumbing
Install a different bar type fixture.

Not much else.

The pipe is running vertically in the wall, not horizontally; moving the height of the fixture would certainly be an easy fix.

So a bar light fixture is really the only option here, in your opinion?

Why do you need a box for a light fixture.
The lamp housing acts as a the box to make the conections.

I just assumed a box was necessary for safety - is that not the case? Of course I could just path the holes in the wall and install a fixture right over the wires. Yes, the housing of the light fixture would contain everything, but I just assumed having a box was necessary.

Nope, a box would be usless in this case because the connections would be covered up if there were inside a box.

A box is necessary for a fixture with a canopy. A box is not necessary for a bar type fixture. If you can post a picture of the new fixture, we can tell you for sure.

I'd be curious what the weight ratings are of this box. Thanks for the heads-up.
