Installing Lighting Fixture

Im installing a new lighting fixture in my home and can't figure out the wire connections. From the ceiling there are 3 wires. one white, one black, and one red. From the fixture there is one white, one black and stripped ground wire. I connected white to white and black to black like instruction said and none of my switches in the house controlled the light on/off. I read an earlier post that someone had to connect red wire from ceiling to black wire on fixture for switch to control. Is this the case in my situation?

Installing Lighting Fixture

If you have a black and a red wire there must be a switch for each wire. Your setup is typical for a ceiling fan. One switch (black wire) controls the fan and the other switch (red) turns the light of the ceiling fan on and off. Do you have two switches in this room?
