Installing a Honeywell RTH2300B thermostat to a gas furnace. Have the standard WYRG wiring.

Do I remove the cover on the JP1 or leave it on?

Really need to post a picture. Are you asking to pull the jumper on the furnace board? You need to post model & manufacturer of the furnace & a/c or heat pump also. What is the wiring that is on the thermostat that is installed currently? To give you an idea, you just need to hook up the same as it is now, to the new thermostat, and then follow the instructions to set up the new thermostat.

If you do not have the owner's manual for it, here it is http://www.honeywellcentral.com/prod...mostat-rth230b

Hello Greg,

I connected the wiring per instructions. My question is dealing with the small black plastic covering on the JP1 (lower left side of thermostat). When I initially installed the unit cold air came out of the vent indicating something was wrong. After re-reading the instructions it is unclear on the setting of the jumper JP1. If a green wire is connected to the terminal set the jumper. Then it says HG leave the jumper in this factory-set position if you have a gas or oil furnace (which I do). What is HG and which way do I go?

J2 sets it for either electric or gas system. What is the model & manufacturer of the furnace and a/c.

It states in the instructions in the link I posted.
