Installing a generator: basic questions

Not bad. I guess a problem will be the wires reaching the subpanel. I guess just a big JB for all the circuits that dont reach?

Installing a generator: basic questions

Approxmately how much draw does a central a/c unit need? It's or a 1400 sq foot cape. Just a rough guess is fine.

Just trying to get a rough idea of big a unit he would need. I am thinking...

Gas funace
Central Air
Sump Pump
Smoke Detectors
Some Lights

TV/Cable box
Fridge
Microwave

Not sure if his stove and oven are gas or electric...awaiting that info. I guess i should go over with exactly what he would want available during an outage, then go around and reading labels on the devices to determine the draw.

well pump (if on private water system)

For the central air conding units the actual wattage / amparage will depending on what size the unit it will have.

Just want to give you a head up with any motour loads expect pretty good starting wattage to get the motour up to the running speed they will take up to 6X of running amps for few seconds some smaller generators may not able get decent size motor load going.

With 8 KW genny I will just cover the basic load that is crictal is heat , lights, of course fridge any leftover room on the generator you can add few more items like washing machine and gaz dryer { becarefull with the load like this if the generator is kinda iffy }.

If will have extend poweroutage you can alternate some loads on the genrator as need to { mine generators I don't have to worry about that due I have two diesel units so I can able switch either unit and can able run in parallel mode if have to ( I allready done that few time )}

For your situation I know you mention natural gaz and of course the plummer or HVAC may have to change the pipe size somecase you will have to change the gaz meter size as well ( some case may switch over to 2 psig system the plummer or HVAC contractor will tell you what they recomend it }

Merci,Marc
