Question on wiring a ceiling fixture
I am installing a ceiling fixture and the box in the ceiling has 4 wires, a white, a black and a red and a ground. The light has two wall switches to control it. My fixture only has three wires, a white and a black and a ground.
When installing it, where do I connect the red wire? |
It sounds like you have a room pre-wired for a ceiling fan. One switch for the light and one for the fan.
Hook up the fixture color for color. Black to black, white to white, ground to ground. Cap off and ignore the red. |

Yes. The wire will have power if someone hits the switch for it. No reason to go any further like removing the switches. You may need it some day.
