installing ceiling fan/light fixture.

raineydr Newbie   Join Date: Mar 2010 Posts: 28	installing ceiling fan/light fixture. Have an existing basic light fixture (light bulb only) wired by basic black and white setup. What do I need to do to change out that light fixture and add a ceiling fan/light fixture.

brric Master Electrician   Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: Indiana Posts: 2,309	installing ceiling fan/light fixture. The first thing to do is replace the existing j-box with a box or assembly rated to support a ceiling fan.

andrew79 Master Electrician   Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: Toronto Ontario Posts: 1,161	installing ceiling fan/light fixture. yes you can do that...it'll show you how to hook it up both ways in the instructions for the fan. you'll just have to manually turn the fan/light off if you want the other to stay on.
