Installing a ceiling fan in a drop ceiling

I am installing a ceiling fan on the second floor of a rental unit. The ceiling is currently a drop/suspended ceiling with 2x2 ceiling tiles. Above the tiles, there are no joists, just the roof rafters. Any tips on installing a ceiling fan in this situation?

how high is the rafter above the ceiling joists? You can get install the fan base in the rafters and use a downrod through the drop ceiling.

You are going to need a fan rated support made for drop ceilings.

Aifittings.com has one in their catalog.

Great, thanks Jim. This looks like what I need: http://www.aifittings.com/catalog/fi...ctions/Q-6.pdf

I've never seen one at any of the big box stores, but do you think a local electric supply house would normally carry something like this in stock?

An electrical supply house would be your best bet.

caddy 512hdfm35 (35lb fan/50 Fixture) or caddy 512hdfm70 (70lb fan /90 fixture) are also good options, i've used the 35's in the past.
