Just moved into a 2002 double wide and am attempting to install ceiling fans in all of the bedrooms, Removed light fixture and found that box will only support 15 lbs and fan/light to be installed is 35 lbs. Purchased a fan brace with the intention of adding extra support. Problem is I cannot locate any ceiling rafters to attach brace to! Insulation in ceiling is blown-in kind so difficult, if not impossible, to look for rafters with mirror and flashlight. Ceilings are all slanted. Anyone know how to do this - or have any suggestions? Thanks/
Many mobile homes used "pop-in" type boxes for ceiling lights (quick and cheep).
You should be able to locate the joists for an expansion box by using a short piece of wire, or putting your arm thru the hole and feeling around. Just be aware that many mobile homes have rather small "joists" for ceiling support.
I just installed a paddle fan in a mobile home today after having to install some blocking on a nearby truss/rafter, and using some rather long screws, etc.
