I want to put a can light between joists (basement ceiling) where my gas line for my fireplace upstairs runs. Its not in the way but just wondering if there is a code against it? the can light is a H7ICT by halo. It is rated for insulation, which I plan on installing too, for noise reduction. all response are welcomed of course! But would also like to here from some qualified electrians too!
As long as the gas line isn't in the way and will not interfere with the correct installation of the light fixture, there are no restrictions in the code (NEC) for this situation.
However, I can't speak for any local amendments or fire codes, building codes, gas codes. I would find it hard to believe that there would be any restrictions in those as well, but a call to the local building inspections office couldn't hurt.
