Installing bathroom wall light
I'm replacing the old hollywood style vanity light in my bathroom, but have a couple problems. First is there is no junction box behind the old light, it's just a wire sticking out of the wall. Second, the wire is right next to a stud but it's on the wrong side of the center of the wall.
I don't think there's anyway way to do this without drywall work - I'm assuming I have to cut a fair sized piece off and drill a hole through the stud to push the wire through and mount it on the other side, does that sound right?
This is my first DIY job on my first house so any tips would be appreciated :)
Some vanity fixtures use the fixture itself as a box.
You might be able to mount a pancake box using the wire where it is and still be able to center the fixture.
