Install New Work IC Recessed Cans in an Old Ceiling

I want to put a few IC rated 5" recessed cans in my kitchen ceiling. I have full access to the attic and have room to wire while I am up there. Can I use new construction cans since I have access to the ceiling from the top and also the ceiling joist to nail the cans to? I just want to make it as secure as possible and the clips on the remodel cans just do not appeal to me.

Thanks, Steve

I suppose you could however when you get up there and try to screw or pound the nails into the joists you will spend 10x's more time than the remodel cans. What I would do is buy high quality cans such as halo or something. Your time is certainly worth something. The clips on these remodel cans work excellent. I would not use new construction cans but that is just me I guess. I have done lights using remodel cans with great success. Either way good luck
