Install new light/fan to existing swith

So I am looking to install fans/light in my upstairs bedrooms. There is no existing light in the room but there is a switch that controls top plug outlet across the room. Was wondering if it hard to install a new fan/light fixture in ceiling and how do I go about doing this start to finish. Thanks

Hard is a relative term depending on your skill level. Is there a neutral at the switch location?

1. Decide how you will get power to the fan/light combo.
2. Install fan rated ceiling box at ceiling level at location you want fan
3. Run cable to supply power to fan/light combo. This cable can be either direct or come via a switch location.
4. Install fan.
