Industrial Electrical Enclosures Colors. Safety Orange?
We have built a “Rittal” brand enclosure going to Europe and are looking for the lawful color standards here in the states because it is being built here and it must first be passed here before satisfying the customer and their regulations from what I understand.
So any help would be appreciated on knowledge of color standards or regulations for enclosure doors.

We have been making machines for 80 years and we have always painted the covers Safety Orange. But the owner of the company says he want some kind of proof. All I'm asking is there written rule that I can find in the NEC or Nema or Osha codes that I can refer to.
If you are a licensed contractor, could'nt you just give me a reference or are you just have fun with me?

It sounds like Licensed Contractors don't know much and can't read.

The internet is HUGE, yet you come to a DIY message board to ask about designing and building industrial equipment? WHY NOT go to the source genius???
OSHA, UL, NFPA, all have web sites and codes online.

Listen I was very nice on the first two replys. You guys were smart asses from the beginning. Since we can all agree that we're all butt heads. Lets start over. I apollogies. I was keeping the first message short because if it's to long, my experience is that it won't get read. The company I work for builds fully automated machines and for the last 8 years they did not have one electrician here untill I arrived last year/2010. They contracted electrical help and they were not that good. I know because I have been doing electrical work for more than 30 years but did not have to engineer any of it. Regardless I know it's good ( safety orange ) but you know trying to search the simple things is sometimes the hardest. I did spend about 2 hrs googleing, I have two engineers from past employers looking for me, I have a fine looking girl in the office researching and the question is becomming a monster. So Thanks for replying anyway.

I have been in the industrial installations and controls business for many years, the external panel colors are specific to the buyers specification, there is no NEMA, NEC, OSHA codes applicable.
Paint it pink if you want.

PS There is a huge difference between an electrician and a controls experienced electrician, you really should know that, if you don't then I would say you haven't been around very long at all.

No color requirement per NEC. Are you a UL shop? If you have been an electrician for 30 years you should know this. For craps sake this is a DIY forum!

I agree. No color requirements. However, I would be more concerned with the electrical info/hazard labeling, disconnect (if present), and other UL508A requirements.

If you are still around checking this, I'll say I don't know the answer for fact. All I know is I have never seen a control/panel box in other than a shades of grey, tan or white.
So there must not be any special requirements other than job specific. Hell, I have seen them in bare stainless.

I do not know why I miss this part however in European side the panel colour it basically the same as USA is the only diffrence that is we have to have international warning label and for interal parts it will depending on which area it will go and their specfic codes it will required.
