"indoor ceiling fans" ok in screen room?

My parents have a screened in porch with a 2x6 shingled roof. Since it is a row home, the neighbors all have similar porch roofs. No rain comes in at all, even in the worst, wind blown storms.

I have an extra ceiling fan from inside my house. Would it be safe and legal to mount this fan in the screen porch? It is technically outside, but with no chance of being wet.

I wouldn't do it. Besides the moisture from rain, there's moisture from fog, blown snow, dirt and dust. To me it wouldn't be worth the couple hundred dollars for one rated outdoor use.

They do it in the Caribbean.
My parents have one they put in a 3 season porch. It's been running for 15 yrs. It's a little rusty from just being in an unconditioned space but it still works.

lol, I think they do it in the Carribbean because they dont have access to many products and arent under much of a safety code there. That being said, I dont think it is going to be much of a big deal, and worst case, the fan might not last all that long? Anyone else?

If the fan has wood composite blades, it probably won't last one summer. They will absorb moisture and deform.

That's not a real good barometer of what's correct and safe, no dis-respect towards your parents.

I still wouldn't do it.
