Individual conductors in unconditioned space

When running individual conductors in an unconditioned space, such as an attic and down through the wall, is it required to run it in conduit of some sort? Or is it allowed to say, do an electrical tape wrap to keep the wires together?

Either conduit or cable (like romex).

Regardless of atmospheric conditions, individual conductors require a raceway or conduit.

Just run romex or ac or mc, etc. Or if you have the wire...run conduit. If you need to fish down a wall then just throw a j-box in, run some cable down (romex, ac, mc, etc) Or flex conduit. Your choice.
