I have been replacing several switches in the house with illuminated switches with no problems - all work and illuminate. I have one single pole switch that works but will not illuminate, it controls a wall outlet. I've tried the switch in another location and it illuminated. I also replaced it with another that resullted in the same problem... I've even switched the common during hook up to see if it made a difference - Switch did not work at all. Does anyone have a solution?
Is it supposed to light up when the circuit is off (so you can see it in the dark) or when the circuit is on? Most lighted switches are the first, that is they light up only when the circuit is off. If this is the case of your switch, try plugging in a lamp to the outlet and make sure the lamp is on. The lighted switch needs a load connected to it in order for the indicator to light up.
If the switch is supposed to light up when the circuit is on, its possible there is a bad or missing neutral wire to the switch itself.
