Is this Illegal or just poor workmanship?

I go by this house everyday. One day I noticed something didn't look right, the SE wires were kind of low. They are mounted on the side of the house about at the top of the first story windows (7-8 ft.) in the front corner. The worst part is their is a farmers porch on the front and any average height person could stand on the porch and be able to reach out and touch the wires.

My old house was in a former cottage area
All of the SE feeds were low
I was actually able to raise mine up about 12"
But other houses were "stuck" unless the wire was replaced
Since the POCO owns the wire they usually will not replace it without goods reason

Take a pic & post it

Some people may want to be a darwin award winner!!

It just doesn't seem right to have those wires and connections so close to a persons access. I would have thought they would have mounted a little higher or just farther from the porch. :whistling2:

maybe a home owner built the porch (without permit of course)

Your concern is valid. The SE conductors and weatherhead must be at least 10' above grade.

I certainly no expert - and I'm not going to get into a debate about grandfathered vrs. new installation, but I thought the Mast had to be a minimum height ?

Sounds like an accident waiting to happen.

Where i live the service entry fitting must be 13' above grade!

Where i used to live, my neighbors SE hung so low that the road-grader caught it! The PA had to install a pole, to get it up higher. Funny part was that they hit the water main when they augered the hole! Ended up with half the road dug up.
