Hunter 3 Speed Fan Switch

Went bad and would only run on one speed; bought a replacement and followed directions and wrote down color and exact position of each wire . Black, grey, purple, and green; I've burned out 3 switches so far. The switch is a Fantec and has 8 holes. The outer holes are marked strip 3; L; 1; and 2. Obviously I need help. If y'all can't figure it out, I will buy a new fan, since it will cost less than an electrician.

Thank you

Hunter 3 Speed Fan Switch

L is line and 1, 2, and 3 are the speeds.
If you keep burning out switches, the motor is probably shot so replacing the fan is the best idea.
