how to wire romex to 2 3 ways to a half hot receptacle


Can any one please help? I am using romex cable and I have 2 3 way switches and I have to wire it to a receptacle that is half hot half switched. how can I do that? can you please show diagram too? Thank you!

You will have to excuse the diagram, I "borrowed" it and modified it to your situation.

I might be wrong but I believe the op is wanting to get power from a half switched receptacle.

how to wire romex to 2 3 ways to a half hot receptacle


There are several ways so I chose the easiest to explain.


2 wire (power in) into the first switch box.

3 wire from 1st switch box to recep box.

3 wire between boxes.


Ist box:

Tie two whites from power in and 3 wire to recep together.

Tie all 3 blacks together.

Red from 3 wire going to recep goes to common terminal of 3 way switch. Red and white from 3 wire between switches go to the other 2 terminals. Mark the white wire with black tape.


2nd box: Black to common terminal, red and white to the other two in any order. Mark the white wire with black tape.

Recep: Use needle nose pliers to pry the tab between the brass screws off. White to silver screw , red and black to the brass screws. The red will be the switched 1/2.
