How to wire in GFCI outlet from scratch?

Basement bathroom, I have light switch for light and one for fan. I don't have any electical outlets but want to install a GFCI in the bathroom so my wife can use the hair dryer etc

Is 14/2 wire what I need to run?

Can I wire the GFCI back to the live power before the light switch or the fan switch?

Basically where do I tie it into?

Thanks

If it is a 15 amp circuit then 14/2 is fine. Run the cable back to any unswitched power source. The GFCI connection will go to the LINE side.
Note to many USA readers, the OP is in Canada. We do not require dedicate bathroom circuits or 20 amp bathroom circuits in Canada.

The size of the circuit fuse or breaker would determine the proper wire size.

As previously noted, connect the power to the LINE terminals of the GFCI.
I just finished re-locating my basement GFCI to a new position and found that it had been wired to the load terminals originally!
Doing so, completely negated the function of the GFCI.

sorry but when you say load terminals what do you mean in terms of wiring?

Is it to be wired before the switch?

On the GFCI receptacle two terminals will be identified for the LINE connection.
The other two are only used in case items down stream need to be protected by the same GFCI. These will be identified as the LOAD terminals. These are only used for downstream protection. and in most cases will be unused!
In your case, power would go to the GFCI , then the load would connect to the switch and on to the fan.
