How to trace a dead wire in a wall

Is there a tool to trace a dead wire in a wall. I don't have a short. Just lost power to a few plugs. No breaker tripped. I'm not sure where the power comes from. I was able to trace all but one wire with my meter. There is one that I can't trace. It is showing resistance across the white and black wire. I'm thinking that this is the problem wire but don't know where it goes.

Most wiring problems are at the end use devices....outlets, switches, etc. Ususally due to a loose screw connection, back stab outlets. Sometimes it is necessary to remove each device and physically check connections. The culprit is often very visible, with burned screws, burned insulation, etc. If nothing turns up there, consider squirrels or other varmints in the walls, that gets difficult.

There are devices called a Fox and Hound that will trace a wire.

I would follow JB's advice first.
