How to replace an Electrical Outlet

Here is video from the videopedia on how to do it the safe way- http://www.5min.com/Video/How-to-replace-an-Electrical-Outlet-2852

Several points-

I do not rely on "touch testers". In this instance, a plug in tester would have shown that he had properly wired the new outlet.

Make sure connections are tight.

Make sure wires are wrapped clockwise. Tightening the screw will wrap the wire tighter around the screw.

Make sure the bare ground wire doesn't contact the side screws or any bare conductor on the white or black.

well... you are right

He didn't explain it perfect but you gotta hand it to him for making an explnation video.

Don't you?

Do I sound too markety?

I just wished I saw more "how to videos".

I think it is easier to learn like that.

You gotta hand it to him for making an effort, however, as you said yourself...

And with something like that, you really need to explain it perfect and be thorough. Explain that the drywall screws (looked like anyway) from the previous installation were NOT the best things to use, and shouldn't be used. Explain the correct direction to wrap the conductors around the screws (which he didn't follow). Explain that you don't just "cram" the wires in there.

And for f***'s sake, quit saying "too easy". If you get it in your mind that it's "too easy", the only thing that will be "too easy" is killing yourself or burning your house down by not paying attention to the details.

I surely would not trust someone that makes a video and does not even understand the basics of wiring. Too Easy. I find receptacles miswired all the time and the HO said well it was easy.... I think that he must have made this video as a parody! It is there house to burn down though!
